In order to begin the course you will require a fundamental knowledge of programming but no prior knowledge of Java is required.  Upon completion of the course you will be an expert in Java and be in a position to apply for jobs as a specialist Java programmer or developer.

At the end of the course you should be in a position to sit the Sun Certified Programmer for Java 6 (Exam 310-065).

This qualification is recognized across the industry and is designed to exhibit your expertise as a qualified Java programmer.



Study Plan

The Sun Certified Java Programmer course is divided into two study sections - Java Programming Fundamentals, and Sun Certified Java Programmer. 

Section 1 – Java Programming Fundamentals

This section centre’s on everything concerned in writing Java applications and applets. This section will cover the following study topics:

• The event Delegation Model
• Inner Classes
• Java Applets
• Exceptions
• Creating Threads and Thread Methods
• Thread Synchronisation
• Streams and Serialisation
• Networking in Java
• Java Runtime environment
• Data Types, Variables and Operators
• Control Statements
• Java Methods
• Arrays
• Classes and Objects
• Inheritance
• Constructors
• Interfaces and Abstract Classes
• Packages and Abstract Modifiers


Section 2 - Sun Certified Java Programmer

This section centre’s on everything concerned in creating Java source files and in defining packages and all forms of classes and interfaces. You will cover the following study topics: 

• Operators and Assignments
• Object Orientation
• Threads
• The Collections API
• Java Language Fundamentals
• Java Modifiers
• Flow Control in Java



Assignments

Between the two sections of the course there are 28 assessments to do.  The assessments will provide the opportunity for your tutor to see your progress and offer useful feedback helping you to get the most of your training.

In addition, you can complete 29 optional practical Labs throughout your course. Full details of these will be found on the CD-ROM supplied with the course.



Study Details

Your course is designed in a logical structure and allows you to learn at your own pace with each new topic building on the knowledge you have gained in previous topics.  The course should take approximately 120 hours of study time.

Note: The minimum computer hardware requirements for this course are;

• DVD-ROM drive, broadband Internet access
• 1024 x 768 or higher resolution screen
• Your operating system must be at least  Windows 2000(SP4), WindowsXP(SP2), Windows 2003 or Windows Vista.
• 500MHz or faster processor
• 120MB RAM or higher
• 2GB of available hard disk space for installation

Accreditation from the course will enable you to apply for jobs within the IT industry as a Java programmer or developer and could command a salary up to £45,000* per annum.
